For years now Golds Gym has been the name that most often comes to mind when people think of a membership gym and there are several reasons why this is so. For one thing they have been around the longest and there are now over 500 Golds Gym franchises established worldwide.
Also, they offer a variety of options for both men and women in their twenty-four hour facilities including womens workout clubs such as Living Well Lady and Curves that offer women complete workout instruction in fun group environments for women only.
However; even though Golds gyms do have a worldwide reputation, they are all independently owned franchise establishments, so some are going to be better than others.
Some of the problems that have plagued the gym business are poor customer service, unclean facilities, aggressive and unethical selling and marketing tactics as well as poor management of the members of the gym as well as the services and group workouts that they offer.
These are just some of the reasons that there are trust issues that permeate the gym business in most communities. What this all adds up to is that you need to do your homework before you run right out and hand over your money to any gym or you may find yourself locked into a regrettable contract.
One thing that you might look for is a gym that offers limited memberships on a trial basis, so you can see if you like it before you join. Still other things that you will want to do is to contact your better business bureau to see if the gym that you have in mind has been the source of any complaints.
One thing that gyms will often do, is to market services that they really aren't offering fully. For instance, they may offer a womens only midnight workout and explain that it will begin in a few weeks but after you join you may find out that the womens midnight workout is an idea that has been getting tossed around for years and will probably will never happen.
This is only a hypothetical example but vague broken promises are one complaint that commonly surfaces from gym members. For the man or woman that just wants to stop in and workout in a group setting and isn't too particular about specifics, it is much easier to find a gym then the person that is interested in particulars.
However; there are a lot of first class establishments out there that offer a complete line of services in a spotless well maintained environment and you may be lucky enough to have one in your community.
