Elliptical Exercise Machines: Features Make a Difference
If you're a bit unfamiliar with elliptical exercise machines, don't feel alone. This is because they've only been available on the market since the 1990s. Quite simply, they were designed to duplicate running only without the jarring impacts that comes with running or jogging.
Unlike other exercise machines that you can get by without features, it is features that separate a good elliptical machine from a truly great model. You see, a truly great elliptical machine delivers a complete workout that effects both the upper and lower body.
As an example, the vertical hand poles on good models are held and move back and forth with little or no resistance. They merely take the hands and arms “for a ride”. On the other hand, a great elliptical machine will have vertical hand poles that offer well synchronized resistance and these models provide a real upper body workout.
Also on a good elliptical exercise machine, the grade of the pedals remains horizontal. However; on a great elliptical machine, the grade of the pedals can be tilted up to give the impression and experience of running up a hill. Also more feature laden models can be peddled in reverse as well as forward.

Less expensive elliptical machines can be purchased without motors but if you can afford it, it's highly recommended that you get one with a motor. They make for a more comfortable and longer lasting workout. Also convenience features like “miles ran” and “calories burned” also most definitely add to elliptical exercise experience.
Remember that it's not as though running exercises aren't available for free anyway. What this means, is that rather than buying a cheaper elliptical exercise machine that doesn't have the features that you would be happy with. Why not consider holding off and running outside until you can save adequate money to buy a more feature laden model.
